The topic of emotional intelligence
as a way for improving bottom-line performance in business
and golf is still foreign to most business C-suite executives,
business owners, technicians, and golfers today. This may
be due to the fact that many of the books written about EQ,
prior to the year 2000, have been written in scientific and
technical terms, not specifically targeted for the layperson.
Score! Power Up Your Game,
Business, and Life by Harnessing the Power of Emotional Intelligence
is intended as a layperson’s introduction in EQ by exploring
the seven major EQ categories covering one’s personal
and social skills. Starting with a basic understanding of
human development, Score! Leads us into a brief history of
EQ (chapter 1), followed by two easy to understand EQ assessments
(chapters 2 and 3) that provide insight into how to create
a baseline metric for understanding one’s emotional
intelligence strengths and undeveloped skills. These assessments
are the heart and soul for measuring where a person is today,
and for planning and measuring one’s improvement and
development for the future. Seven major emotional intelligence
concepts are then defined and explored as they relate to both
the business and golf environments (chapters 4 – 12)
Throughout Score!
there are many thought provoking ideas and points to ponder.
Golfers will especially appreciate the golf exercises (Appendix)
that can be used to internalize the EQ skills sets. Business
professionals, parents, and teachers seeking self-development
will find the EQ examples and exercises a challenge that will
help them to expand their self-awareness and emotional maturity.
